Bicycle 101
Description

Come and develop your bicycle handling and traffic skills. This comprehensive class covers how to ride safely in traffic and how to fix common mechanical problems.

For the class, you need to bring a helmet, a bicycle in good working order, and clothing to ride. Drinks and snacks are provided. The following topics will be covered:

  • Basic bicycle mechanics
  • Helmet and bike fit
  • Pre-ride safety check
  • Gear selection
  • Traffic laws
  • Lane positioning and crash avoidance
  • Emergency maneuvers (conducted in the parking lot)
  • Short road ride

Mechanics Classes

General Bicycle Mechanics
Description Would you like to learn how to prevent and fix a flat?  Or would you like some advice on what to take with you on a long ride? This class can help you learn how to keep your bike in good, safe working order. Basics such and properly taking on and off wheels and lubricating the chain are covered as well as more advanced topics including how to adjust the brakes and shifting.

Advanced Bicycle Mechanics
Description This class covers the cable and bearing system of the bicycle.  This includes brakes, derailleurs, headsets and hubs.
